33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Jesus said to his disciples: 'Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away'. Every now and again someone spreads the rumour of the end of the world. So far it hasn't taken place! We have something far more important than the end of the world to make our preoccupation, namely the wonderful presence of Christ with us and in us and around us. As followers of Jesus we have a great responsibility to the world we live in to show him powerfully in the way we live as his people in spite of all the scandals and all the upheaval in the Church today. We do this by the joy of God's presence and love shining out through us. And we do it by the quality of life we develop in our homes and in our parish community, a quality that is characterised by kindness, gentleness, care, enthusiasm, peace, hope, forgiveness.

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Thirty Third Sunday Ordinary Time

Today is the second last Sunday of the Church year – next Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. On this Sunday, the readings traditionally speak about the end of the world, the end of time and the final coming of Jesus to take all peoples and creation to Himself. The traditional language used today in the description of events to happen is not to be interpreted literally as a prophecy and message of fear of what will actually happen. Rather, it communicates a message of hope: at Baptism we enter the Kingdom of God. The Scriptures afford us the opportunity to live our lives in the love and service of God, to enter into a deeper relationship with Him and, ultimately, when God calls us to Himself, to enter into a different kind of life. We rejoice in the Last Judgement, which will mark the culmination and finalisation of God’s plan for the world.

THE BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE remains open at the front of the church, for you to write the names of your deceased relatives and friends. They will be prayed for each time Mass is celebrated in the church during November.
