Next Sunday,
Catholics throughout the world will celebrate Mission
Sunday. It is a special day for all of us to recommit
ourselves to the Church’s mission of sharing faith.
We tend to think of missionaries as Priests, Religious
and Lay People who work in other countries. All of us,
by virtue of our baptism, are called to be missionaries.
We have a responsibility, through our words and, especially,
through our actions, to spread the Good News of the
Gospels, in our homes and families, in our parish community,
in our schools, and worldwide.
World Missions
Ireland promotes the annual Propagation of the Faith
(Mission Sunday) collection. This collection will be
taken up at all our Masses next weekend, as a second
collection. There is an envelope in your boxes for it.
Funds raised through this collection, which is taken
up worldwide, are used to build churches, assist Young
Churches and missionaries in helping communities in
need, build health clinics for children, for emergency
aid in times of war or natural disaster, and for care
of refugees. Full details of the work of World Missions
Ireland can be obtained on www.wmi.ie.
The theme for
Mission Month this year is ‘Together in Faith’.
Together in Faith, as a parish community, we pray for
everyone involved in missionary work abroad, especially
those from our own parish and our country.

APOSTOLIC WORK SOCIETY Mass will be
celebrated for living and deceased members on Wednesday
26 October, at 7.30pm, in St Patrick’s Church,

INTRODUCTION OF NEW MISSAL – UNIFORMITY
OF POSTURE DURING MASS: The Derry Diocese is
introducing ‘Common Posture’ at Masses in
all churches in the diocese, with the formal introduction
of the New Edition of the Missal, on the First Sunday
of Advent. The Church provides Norms for Posture during
Mass, as laid out in the General Instruction of the
Roman Missal. These norms are: Standing from the beginning
of Mass until the end of the Collect, Standing from
the Orate Fratres (Pray, brothers and sisters…)
until the end of the Sanctus, Standing from the Concluding
Prayer until the end of Mass. At our Masses from this
week onwards, I am hoping to observe these norms, with
your help. As with the revised translation, we will
not get it right all the time at the beginning but,
hopefully, we will be well used to it by the time the
‘Common Posture’ is formally introduced
at the end of November.
