12th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus the Lord of the Storm

Jesus said to his disciples: "Why is it that you are so frightened? How is it that you have no faith?" Over the past few years the Church has been going through a fierce storm. It has been a time of anxiety and worry for many. It has also been a time of deep hurt and anger for others. And there seems to be no end to it. The word of Jesus today is very timely for us. Even though the storm is real and we have to face the reality of it with all its implications, we have to remember that Christ is with us and he will bring calm again. However, this does not mean that we do nothing but wait. We have a real responsibility to work for that calm by the ways we love one another in our homes and in our community. This will take a lot of generosity with our time and our talents in building marriage and family life to their fullest and it will take a new commitment to building the parish as a community of faith and hope.

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Sunday 21st June 2009

Twelfth Sunday Ordinary Time

When the Apostles got caught in a storm, they turned to Jesus for help and found it. We too, from time to time, get caught up in storms, usually in the form of trials of one kind or another. Like the Apostles, we must know how to turn to the Lord and trust that He will see us through the storm.

‘Why are you so frightened. How is it that you have no faith?’

WEEKDAY MASSES

Dregish: Wednesday: 10.00am, Friday 10.00am
Drumnabey: Monday: 10.00am, Thursday 7.30pm.

His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, announced that Ireland will host the 50th International Eucharistic Congress, in Dublin, in 2012. To help meet the costs of planning for and hosting this very important event in the Church’s life, the Irish Bishops’ Conference has asked that every parish in Ireland hold a collection each year from now until 2012. There will be a second collection, for the Eucharistic Congress, taken up at our Masses today.
