Catholic Schools Week 2012: January 29 – February 4, 2012

‘Catholic Schools: Christ’s living body active in our world’

The theme for this year’s Catholic Schools Week is taken from the anthem of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress, Though We Are Many, and reflects the overall theme of the International Eucharistic Congress – ‘The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with one another.’ The purpose of the Week is to highlight and celebrate the contribution that Catholic Schools make to our local parish communities and to society in general. Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor will be the Chief Celebrant at the annual Mass to celebrate Catholic Schools Week in St Eugene’s Cathedral on Tuesday 7 February at 10.00am. Representatives from our four schools will attend.

Thurs 2 February: Presentation of the Child Jesus in the Temple (Candlemas Day) It is also World Day of Consecrated Life: a day of special prayer for women and men who have chosen to consecrate their lives to God in Religious Life.

Fri 3 February: Feast of St Blaise – Patron Saint of Illnesses of the Throat

Sat 11 February: Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes: World Day of Prayer for the Sick

APOSTOLIC WORK SOCIETY There will be a meeting in the Conference Room of St Patrick’s Church on Wednesday evening, 25 January, at 6.30pm. New members would be very welcome.



SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION will be administered by Bishop Lagan on Sunday 12 February at the 10.00am Mass in St Patrick’s, Castlederg.



SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM in St Patrick’s, Castlederg, next month will be on Sunday 19 February, at 1.30pm. Completed Cards should be returned to the sacristy by Sunday 12 February.

DRUMNABEY FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE There will be a meeting of the Fundraising Committee on Thursday night, 26 January, after 7.30pm Mass to organise upcoming concert and sketch as part of the parish fundraising activities for the year.



OPEN NIGHT in St Eugene’s High School on Monday night, 23 January, from 7.30pm-9.00pm. Parents and P7 Transfer Pupils are warmly invited. Principal’s address will take place at 7.30pm.

The YARD Project based at Columba House, 11 Queen St, Derry, is holding a Family Information & Support Day on Saturday 4th February from 10am – 4.30pm. An opportunity for you to hear from people who have been in your situation and found the support they needed to move forward. If you are interested in obtaining tickets for the final Mass (Statio Orbis) in Croke Park on Sunday 17 June, please contact me for an application form. The tickets are £10 or €10. Only 1,600 tickets are available to the Derry Diocese and, of these, only 21 have been allocated to our parish, so early booking is essential if you wish to be considered for a ticket. Buses from the diocese are being organised and further details on arrangements will be available shortly.
