Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

EDUCATION IN FAITH SUNDAY

Education in Faith Sunday challenges us to recognise that as members of the church we are all teachers under the guidance of the Spirit and share in the responsibility of furthering the Reign of God. Today's Gospel opens with an account of Jesus preaching out in the open. Up to this moment Jesus has remained practically silent. From now on it is time for him to speak, to proclaim that the Reign of God is at hand, at this crossroads of the nations, Galilee. For more information on the theme and initiatives of Education in Faith Sunday go to: www.catechetics.ie. This Day should be mentioned as an intention in the Prayer of the Faithful on Sunday, 27 January.

THE POPE'S INTENTIONS FOR FEBRUARY 2008
General: That the mentally handicapped may not be marginalised but respected and lovingly helped to live in a way worthy of their physical and social condition.
Mission: That Institutes of Consecrated Life, so flourishing in mission countries, may rediscover the missionary dimension and, faithful to the radical choice of Gospel counsels, be generous in bearing witness to Christ and proclaiming him to the ends of the earth.
