Pentecost
Sunday
Jesus said to his disciples:
"Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so am
I sending you." Then he breathed on them
and said: "Receive the Holy Spirit." As we
celebrate Pentecost in our homes and our parish communities,
there are two qualities we need to develop - peace and
energy. Peace is Christ's desire for us as we journey
with him and with one another. But peace is not a passive
thing. Rather it is a dynamic way of life. We are to
be his witnesses in the world, and so he gives us his
Holy Spirit so that we can have the energy we need in
order to witness through love. This love is practised
and developed in marriage and family life. It needs
to be extended to the life of the parish community.
Our motto for this week of Pentecost can be: "Love
as if everything depends on you. Live as if everything
depends on God."
Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Sunday 31st May, 2009.
Pentecost Sunday
First Reading Acts 2: 1-11
The apostles are filled with the Holy Spirit and bear
witness to Christ.
Second Reading 1 Corinthians
12: 3-7.12-13
The fruits of the Spirit.
Gospel John 20: 19-23
I shall send the Spirit of truth and you too will be
witnesses.
Come Holy Spirit, Renew the Face
of the Earth.
'The Church was made manifest to the world on the day
of Pentecost by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The
gift of the Spirit ushers in a new era in the dispensation
of the mystery - the age of the Church, during which
Christ manifests, makes present and communicates his
work of salvation through the liturgy of his Church
"until he comes'" (CCC, 1 076).
The fifty days of Easter
conclude with the celebration of Pentecost

on gambling?
3. Have you ever felt guilty about your dependence
